This past week has been Homecoming Spirit Week. Today, January 31st, was Hawaiian Day, being the last day of Spirit Week. Throughout this week, we have had many wonderful outfits, and Hawaiian styles were certainly one of the popular themes.

Walking around the halls one could see students, and teachers participating, wearing Hawaiian shirts and leis. More importantly, spreading school spirit.

Carly Burris, sophomore, said, “I very much enjoyed homecoming week because I loved dressing up in random costumes and I think it was really fun.”

Jan. 27th was Edmonson County Highschool’s fourth day of Homecoming Spirit Week. Students were excited to showcase their best preppy country clothes and their country flannels. 

Hallie Cassady, senior, said, “I loved dressing up as a country girl today. I also loved the opportunity to channel my inner Dolly Parton by wearing my boots and fringed jacket.” 

Not only did the students have fun changing their appearance for a day, but the staff of Edmonson County Highschool did as well. This week so far has helped the wildcats’ spirits sky-rocket for the next upcoming game. 

Cassady stated, “I’m so excited about this week! My basketball team and I are so pumped about playing Grayson County Friday. We’re all hoping to get another win!”

Like Dolly Parton once said, “Smile – it increases your face value.”

Today, January 28, was Wildcat Spirit Day for the homecoming spirit week and club day.

Zoe Evans said, "I am very grateful for today because it gave me the chance to dress up, look good, and support our school.”

Today, Jan. 26, was the second dress-up day for the basketball homecoming. The theme today was to wear apparel from one's favorite college. Unfortunately, not a lot of people were dressed up. 

 One individual who dressed up was math teacher, Joy Curtis. Curtis dressed up in her red Western Kentucky University tee-shirt.

 Curtis said, “It makes me feel proud because I am representing my Alma Mater.”

Walking in the hallways, one could see different people with multiple different college shirts including the University of Louisville, Western Kentucky University, University of Kentucky, Murray State University, and more.

The students of Edmonson County Highschool, ECHS, were invited to participate in a spirit week with differing daily themes for school spirit. Today was Mathletes vs. Athletes, where students and teachers dressed up to represent themselves as either an academic person or an athletic person.

Gavyn Minyard, baseball player, and senior participant said, “I feel themes like these put the spotlight on teams and students.”

School Closing for January 20th-21st

 This is a reminder for anyone and every one of Edmonson County. All Edmonson County Schools have been closed for January 20th along with the 21st. Jonathan Miller, the sophomore history teacher and instructor of SADD Club, was born in Bowling Green, Kentucky. However, Miller grew up in Edmonson County. When Miller was younger he wanted to be a musician, but he did not want to risk failure. Miller decided that he would be a teacher instead, and followed in his parents’ footsteps.

 “They enjoyed being a teacher, so I decided to be one too.” He studied at Western Kentucky University, WKU, to be a teacher and band instructor. Miller expressed that he is happy being a teacher and where he is in life.

Miller explained, “I love teaching others and I hope to inspire them to learn.” He admitted his least favorite thing about teaching is having to answer the same questions repeatedly. Miller was hired to play the drums at WKU, but teaching at Edmonson County High School was his first actual long-term job. He started teaching at Edmonson County High School five years ago. Although he decided not to pursue a career in music, he enjoys playing the drums, guitar, and other instruments.

 “As much as I love being a teacher, I want to be known as someone they would see in the real world, someone they would say “Hey,” to.” he confided. Miller hopes to be remembered as someone who is passionate about what he teaches to his students.

Edmonson County Highschool’s, ECHS, very own principal, Jonathan Williams, not only performs his job with passion, but with the pride of a wildcat.

Williams came from Sweeden, Kentucky, and went to school with Derrick Stice (Science), Kyle Pierce (JAG), and Leanne Pierce (English). All of which were taught by Anthony Elmore during his 1st year of teaching at ECHS. After high school, Williams went to the University of the Cumberlands and graduated with the Rank 1 teaching status, meaning he holds a master’s and took a variety of graduate courses equal to 30 credit hours.

Today, Williams plays a very important role in our school. As principal, he has many responsibilities and obligations to the school and the students, but he does more than the typical principal. Williams takes it upon himself to ensure the students of ECHS enjoy their time in school. He organizes events, such as Clash of Classes, to promote student participation and give students a chance to create irreplaceable memories. ECHS is fortunate to have a principal like Williams.
