Thursday, Dec. 16th, was another day to spread the Christmas spirit at

Edmonson County Highschool, ECHS, with Thursday’s theme, “Rocking Around the Christmas Tree.”

Zoe Evans, sophomore, said, “The Christmas clothes are pretty comfortable, and they’re

colorful which helps hype people up with the Christmas spirit by wearing Christmas accessories."

Many students here in Edmonson County High School wore their best Christmas Accessories,

going from simple reindeer antlers or Santa hats; to more fun and festive accessories

like glowing ornament necklaces.

Abigail Oakley, sophomore, said, “I like to take advantage of this opportunity,

I never had such an opportunity when I was a kid. Though, I do believe it helps spread

Christmas Cheer a little bit, even if most people don’t care.”

Mia Holland and Sydney Henion, both sophomores, said, “We both think it helps spread

Christmas cheer here in Edmonson County.”

At the end of the day, it is safe to say that Christmas cheer has definitely been

spread across Edmonson County this Thursday!

Dec. 15, a day to spread Christmas cheer once again in Edmonson County High School, ECHS. Wednesday’s theme was ‘Winter Hat Wednesday’. Students and faculty alike were wearing their best Christmas hats. Ranging anywhere from Santa hats, elf hats, reindeer antlers, and winter beanies. 

Leanne Pierce, a teacher at ECHS, exclaimed, "It’s nice to see students express their personality through the various themed days, such as their choice of hats.” Pierce dressed up in her Christmas sweater and hat.

Students from every grade participated. Jade Tinkham, Junior, said,” Being able to wear a Christmas hat makes me feel Christmas-y. Not only can I feel the Christmas Spirit, but my hat keeps me warm throughout the day.”

Tuesday, Dec. 14, was Christmas Cringe day at Edmonson County High School. Throughout the school, students and faculty were seen wearing their cringiest Christmas sweaters. Many people are taking this week to showcase their school spirit throughout each theme that has been planned for every day.

First-year teacher, April Hennion wore her Christmas taco sweater today. When asked about school spirit Hennion said, “It’s always fun to have dress-up days at school. They bring a different vibe to the school and boost school spirit.” 

Dressing up is not the only thing boosting school spirit this time of the year. Students are happier since they have three days until the Christmas break.

When asking Junior Kay Belcher if dressing up makes the school feel happier, Belcher said, “I feel like school spirit is way up right now but students are also really excited for the break!”

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the school. Not a student was stirring, not even an assignment. Dec. 13 was the first day of Edmonson County Highschool’s, ECHS, Christmas Spirit Week. The theme for today was to “Wear your Christmas PJs.”

All throughout the school, one could see students dressed in their Christmas PJs. Some being in onesies, while others in full-sets. 

Katie Adams, Senior, said, “I really felt the Christmas Spirit today, by participating in my reindeer onesie.” Many Seniors made their mark known today by interacting with the ability to dress up. Some students were just excited about the fact that it will be the last week of school till January.

Peyton Sanders, Junior, said, “I’m highly excited not only for spirit week but also because it’s the last week of school.” 

Everyone in ECHS can gladly say that the first day of Christmas Spirit Week was a success!

Edmonson County Highschool, ECHS, had their first home basketball game of the year against Nelson County Highschool, NCHS, on Nov. 30th. The game was with both JV and Varsity players. Both teams’ crowds were ecstatic over each point being scored. ECHS’ bleachers were filled with many supporters and family members of the players.

Hallie Cassidy, a senior, said, “Our boys are going to put this one out tonight.¨.

With 62 points ECHS Wildcats took the win against NCHS Cardinals with 52 points.  

Trace Taylor, one of ECHS varsity players, said, ¨We will win for sure. I’m stoked and excited to play.¨

Junior Varsity, (JV), Won their game 52-26 Coach Booth said, ¨ I was nervous for our boys, being that you usually get the first game jitters. After the game, I was really proud of the way they played. I can say that I saw some of the best passing from our boys, and they played really well.¨

“I love sharing my passion for our amazing republic. Hopefully, it will inspire them    (The students) in their adult lives.” Mrs. Rhetta Roy has been teaching US History at Edmonson County High School since 2020. Roy expressed that she felt it was harder for her to connect to the students last year. Mainly due to the pandemic, and more so the online teaching.

Mrs. Roy, her husband, Coach Chris Roy, and their daughter, Riley Roy, who is a Freshman this year,  moved here when Coach Roy got a job opportunity, another reason is a longtime friend of Coach Roy offered them a job here. Along with being the girl's basketball coach. That friend would be our very own Principal Jonathan Williams.

They knew each other while they worked together at Warren East in 2019. After becoming the Principal here,  Mr. Williams confided to Coach Roy that the school needed a new PE coach. That is when Roy’s decision to move from Atlanta, Georgia to wonderful Edmonson County.        

Rhetta Roy is from Birmingham, Alabama. She then moved from her hometown in Georgia in 7th grade Roy always knew she wanted to be a teacher. Where she then proceeded to attend Georgia State University.

 “I have a lot of experience, in different settings,” Roy stated.

This would be true, this is her twenty-second-year teaching, and ECHS is the 5th high school

that she has taught at.

Roy admitted that “It feels very much like a family here in Edmonson County.”

All of Edmonson County can agree with that.

On Thursday, Oct. 28, five of Edmonson County’s Future Farmers of America, FFA, officers

and two advisors participated at the National FFA Convention. Danyale Atwell

as President, Morgan Vincent as Vice President, Taylor Atwell as Treasurer,

Jonathan Vincent as Sentinel, and Dalton Curtis as Secretary. With Mattie Mink

and Matthew Lindsey as the advisors.

On the day that everyone arrived, they listened to the second session of the day featuring

the National FFA Board Recognition.

On Friday, Oct. 29, they got to watch the world’s Toughest Rodeo.

Edmonson County’s FFA got to experience an opportunity to see the new state officers

be appointed, and listen to the retired officers say their farewell speeches. Along with an

officer being appointed from Kentucky. Danyale Atwell, senior, said, “It was so awesome!”
